"first hand experience"

Adam's Blog

Silverback was delighted to welcome Adam onto the Certificate in Security Management programme in October 2019. Adam is an operational security manager with 15 years of experience managing complex security operations, most recently with Spotify. In the last few years he had begun to realise that there were gaps in his knowledge and that he was feeling ready to engage with some form of professional development. At the same time however, he was wary about returning to the classroom.

Swallowing his concerns, he finally registered and has now offered to share his experiences of returning to learning, his feelings about the course and the challenges it is setting him.

1. Eyes Wide Open

1. Eyes Wide Open

I went into this course with my eyes wide open but mind in overdrive.   What should I take with me on the course?   Do I need stationery? (silly I know).  Will they have pens and pads?   My drive from home to that first weekend, I was taking work calls as normal – one after the other - with my mind racing.   Am I doing the right thing?   Am I too old or even have it about me to take the information in?   And complete my assignments?   And hold down a full-time job?

Managing Time and Deadlines

2. Managing Times.... Deadlines

At the end of the weekend we were handed our second assignment but our first written assignment which was to create a Crisis Management Plan.  And there was a deadline to hit.
